“Wasted Angel”
Artist: With Engines [Vocals/Piano/Guitar- John Ryan] [Bass- Andrew Haas] [Drums- Josh Jones]
Composed by With Engines
Produced by Trevor Paul
Engineered by Jun Byun

This pop/rock track was rehearsed, recorded, and polished over the Fall ’08 semester in close collaboration with the Berklee based trio With Engines. This was the principal focus of the MP-320 Music Production and Engineering course.

“Firestone and Rain” (Jingle)
Composed by James Taylor
[Drums- Travis Abel] [Bass/Guitar- Michael Manke]
Vocals: Michael Manke/Voiceover: Allison Piccioni
Produced and Arranged by Trevor Paul
Engineered by John Georgievski

The final MP 318 production project tasked the student with finding a hit song to “re-write” and create a 30 second radio Jingle, with the goal of catching the listeners’ ear and selling a major product. Tires are the product and the customer’s safety with said product was the focus of this re-arranged James Taylor classic “Fire and Rain”

“Shy”
Artist: Hannah Sumner (Composer/Vocalist)
[Drums- Travis Abel] [Bass- Brian Percival] [Piano- Dane Fawnsworth] [Trumpet- Adrian Kelley][ Alto Sax- John Golco][ Berry Sax- Ben Whiting][Guitar- Stephen Gasper]
Produced by Trevor Paul
Engineered by Michelle Mancini

As my first production undertaking at Berklee, this track was a very large arrangement, and had a big band goal to sound like a high energy Michael Buble track. This example was a totally live take, and was recorded straight to a 2 track medium for completion.

“I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times” (Cover)
Artist: With Engines (featuring Eli Winderman - Organ)
Composer: Brian Wilson (Beach Boys)
Produced/Engineered/Mixed by Trevor Paul

This freelance project was a live recording in the studio, and over several takes became a fun and interesting take on a classic Beach Boys tune. There was no overdubbing, attesting to the pure talent of With Engines and their ability to perform both original and cover material on the spot live with confidence.

“No Such Thing” (Sound-a-Like)
Composer: John Mayer/Clay Cooke
Produced by Trevor Paul
Engineered by Max Hodes
[Drums- Andy Harris][Bass/Keys-Michael Manke][Vocals/Guitars- Dylan Galvin]
For my sound-a-like MP 318 project, I chose the first hit of the Berklee alum John Mayer. The 2001 hit,a fantastic pop tune, took radio’s by storm, and its high energy sound proved a rewarding challenge to recreate. The track was recorded and mixed in little over a month.

“Epiphany”
Artist: Robbie Fitzsimmons [Vocals/Songwriter]
Produced by Farin Hoover
Engineered by Anna Leliopolous
[Drums- Chris Hollridge] [ Bass-Brian Percival] [Keys – Eli Winderman]

As the guitar player for this session, I was tasked with laying down a funky rhythm part, while remaining tastefully out of the vocalist’s way. There was a lot of trading, but my time to shine was during my solo the last thirty seconds of the tune, check it out.

“IdeoFunk”
Artist: The Back Bay Trio
Composer: John Scofield
Produced/Engineered/Mixed by Trevor Paul
[Drums- Travis Abel] [Bass- Michael Manke]

As the guitarists and band-leader of the San Francisco based jazz/funk trio The Back Bay trio, this track personifies our sound and energy that we bring to the club/lounge scene in the bay. This John Scofield track is from the album Uberjam, and is a favorite of mine, Scofield is without a doubt one of my idols.

“Love Song” (MPE Sound-a-Like)
Composer: Sara Bareilles
Produced by Michael Manke
Engineered by Trevor Paul/Farin Hoover
[Vocals/Piano- Zarni De Wet][Drums- Caleb Gilbreath] [Bass-Farin Hoover]

Sound-a likes are some of the most challenging projects to play on, there is no room for mistakes, and the goal is to capture the original sound that made the tune a hit in the first place. This track had many subtle guitar likes, and with extensive studying and rehearsal, resulted in a fantastic project.

“Waiting On the World To Change” (Sound-a-Like)
Composer: John Mayer
Produced by Dylan Vaughn
[Vocals- Dylan Galvin][Bass- Bryan Percivall][Trumpet –Adrian Kelley]

Another sound-a-like, this track was a hit by the successful Berklee alum John Mayer. Very careful attention was paid to the timbre and tone of my guitar part, Mayer tunes are always an impressive display of guitar prowess, and this project was a chance to master such successful recording techniques and production approaches.

Singers Showcase
In the Spring of ’06 I was the guitarists in the Berklee Singers Showcase Ensemble. The video above is of me playing the talk-box on the Rascall Flatts tune “Me and My Gang”. I was asked by the Showcase Yo-Team director Ken Zambello to again join the group, and will be the lead guitarist for this Falls ’08 production!
